Common Threads Collection Watteau No. 1 8x10 from Jan Kath
We here at Christiane Millinger are proud to present a line of folk-art inspired pieces from Jan Kath, the Common Threads Collection.
Drawing inspiration from darning samplers dating from the 18th and 19th Centuries, housed in the Museum of International Folk Art located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Kyle Clarkson from Jan Kath has produced a line of carpets taking patterns and techniques rooted in the past and delightfully transforms them into modern masterpieces.
These Samplers, along with examples of the mending of curtains, tablecloths, and other domestic garments by young German, English, Belgian, and Swedish women learning the craft demonstrate deft craftmanship and charming whimsy in what originated as utilitarian repair techniques.
The resulting line of carpets take these examples of pattern and technique and weave a line that brings some of that timeless craft into any home.
