Classic Red 2x4 Gabbeh Handmade Rug
Traditional Red Kashkuli Gabbeh Rug
Classic red Gabbeh rug. One of the more common color choices, the iconic red color comes from the use of madder root to produce the dyes, just as weavers have been using for thousands of years. The Madder plant takes around 5 years to mature before it is ready to be harvested for use in dye making. This in conjunction with the natural variation in pigments in the sheep's wool creates the variety and depth gabbeh rugs are loved for. Since the entire production is done by hand, the wool retains much of the natural lanolin that makes these gorgeous rugs as durable and resistant to staining as they are beautiful.
