The Memling Gul style rugs have their origin in Anatolian and Armenian patterns but get their name due to appearances in several works by the 15th Century German-Flemish painter Hans Memling. The hooked design featured in the center of the hexagonal gul shapes is so synonymous with his work that they are called Memling Guls in the world of rugs. This newly produced piece from Pakistan continues that classic design with the use of bright colors for a more contemporary feel.
