The Special from Jan Kath is a dynamic blend of light and dark, soft and coarse. 

The Special series from Jan Kath exists a daily simple premise of combining materials with vastly different texture profiles and typically two different methods of weaving and knotting for not only a variety of textures but also a three-dimensional interplay with light and shadow. 

This particular piece uses a brassy silk pile combined with a flat-woven neutral texture of nettle fibers for an unexpected range of sensorial experiences within one textile. The way each material play with light creates a dynamic range of reflection and shadow mirrors this juxtaposition. Light and dark, soft and coarse.
