Polonaise II 9x12 Rug From Turquoise Mountain
The Polonaise family of rugs exude Old World sophistication and the love of a bygone era of rug production.
We are proud to be able to offer rugs from Turquoise Mountain. Since 2006 this organization has worked to elevate not only the state of Afghan rug production, but also the lives of the weavers and craftspersons that are so crucial to it. Each purchase from Turquoise Mountain contributes to educational work programs and training, community health centers, and schools striving to revitalize Kabul, and the spirit of the people.
Polonaise rugs are a type of patterned rugs erroneously named after the Polish and Prussian houses that once commissioned these baroque style ornate designs from Persian weavers. Modern academia has correctly placed these as Persian rugs, but there commissioned graphics of Polish crests and European inspired patterns solidified the name for these area rugs to the French tastemakers that "rediscovered" them in the 1800's.
