Red Shekarlou 3x5 Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs have their origins in the nomadic world of Persian herders. Made using hand-spun wool and dyes produced from natural plant and vegetable sources, our authentic Gabbeh rugs are among the most holistic choices for living spaces. Prized for their uniqueness and durable quality as working textiles, each Gabbeh is a one of a kind glimpse into a world unto itself. We have the finest selection of Gabbeh rugs in the Pacific Northwest.
Shekarlou type Gabbeh rugs often feature high knot counts and patterns of a rectangle with alternating colors within and implying a border, or a gradient of color within the ombre. This subset of the Greater Qashqaii tribal group originate from the Fars Province in Southwest Persia. These rugs are said to be made with the idea of capturing an emotion or feeling as opposed to the more literal landscape style Kashkuli and traditional Luri rugs
The red dyes used in these rugs is made using the root of the madder plant. This plant must mature for at least five years prior to being harvested for dye making. The resulting red tones can range from intense and bright to more pastel coral tones depending on factors like dye concentration and whether the wool being dyed is of a lighter ivory tone or darker variety.
