Part of the whimsy Gabbeh rugs are known for is the usage of small symbolic representations of things like trees, animals and plants along with other shapes such as squares of color or ancient charm-like talismans to ward off evil and promote prosperity.

Hand-woven using undyed wool in its natural state produces these rugs illustrating the spectrum of tones found in any group of sheep. Ranging from ivory and creme tones, to brown and grays, even blueish black, which can either be used individually or blended in the hand spinning process for a heather gray yarn.

The blue used in these rugs is made using the leaves of the indigo plant. These leaves are boiled and fermented to result in a rich blue dye that when combined with the lanolin rich hand-spun wool results in an incredible feel and sheen.
