One of our favorites, Billboard No. 04 continues Jan Kath's exploration of time and its interplay with material. 

The Billboard Collection from Jan Kath takes its influence from the deteriorating advertising hoarding seen during his travels to Bangkok on the road to Jan Kath's SE Asian production sites. The rectangular sections that comprise the entire billboards have often been replaced and show echos of the images and wear that particular section has experienced in during its lifetime.

Seeking to emulate this, the Billboard Collection is a study in both time and material, a central philosophy seen in many of the fine rugs Jan Kath produces, that shows the ravages of age and experience are actually something more like artwork in progress, one capable of creating a object of unique beauty.
