Shahsavan Style 6x9 Area Rug

Traditional Shahsavan / Caucasian Pattern Rug in Red, Blue, Yellow and Green Tones.

Shahsavan rugs are a category of rugs produced by a rather diverse group of migratory peoples originating in what is present day Azerbaijan and Northern Iran. Many of these rugs have strong characteristics resembling rugs produced in the Caucasus, such as the three vertical medallion shapes seen here in alternating colors with horizontal arms reaching toward the edges of the blue ground. This same deep blue is present in the border which is detailed with colorful floral shapes in multiple tones. 

This all wool rug has been hand-knotted in Afghanistan and has a medium to lower pile height. It is not stiff or rigid, but rather quite soft. The wool has a subtle shine and should respond well to high traffic areas and busy households. 

Since its founding in 2006 by King Charles III, Turquoise Mountain has strived to work with the artisans and craftsperson of Afghanistan to rebuild historic Kabul and to establish the sustainability of the Afghan textile industry as a means to improve the quality of life for all Afghans.
