Colorful Moharamat Design Kilim and Pile 5x8 Rug
Striped 5x8 Using Woven Kilim and Pile Techniques.
This is a rather interesting little rug that combines a coarsely woven kilim base in predominantly earth tones with raised colorful sections of knotted pile. This creates a playful 3D aspect to the piece. Made using hand-spun wool and natural dyes from plant and mineral sources, this roughly 5x8 piece combines timeless rug hand production methods yet has an almost modern look and feel.
Moharamat rugs are some of the oldest recognizable style rugs attributed to Persian weaving groups. The patten relies on the use of vertical lines within a contained border. and the vertical strips often include classic floral and vine motifs along with other symbolic patterns typically seen in Persian rugs. This particular one, using a Gabbeh type pile, and the inclusion of broken vertical and horizontal segments gives it a fun and more whimsical tribal touch.
