Engsi type pattern rug hand-knotted in Afghanistan. Engsi style rugs emerged as a distinct style from original woven and knotted pieces used as entrance covers on tents. The tendency for one edge to differ from the other is a stylistic holdover from original working textiles that had an end that was comprised of a flat woven section with slits to accommodate a rod or rope and allow it to slide open for access to the tent. Enough of these original Engsi pieces have entered the market that it has become an established look on its own and this newly produced rug echoes that original look, albeit all as a pile rug. 

Hand-woven and knotted in hearty Afghan wool, this piece offers durability and timeless style simultaneously. Ideal for a higher traffic space or busy household. The welcoming red palette and tribal detailing make this a piece that is both beautiful as well as able to handle the demands of the modern home.
