Pattern Mix Collection Sashiko in Bronze & Deep Blue 8x10 rug
East Meets West in this Italian designed Rug with Japanese influences.
The word Sashiko describes a type of Japanese embroidery that emerged in the Edo period of Japan, which arose from the practical need to repair and reinforce clothing. In time, the simple repeating patterns became more decorative and elaborate with complex tessellations and images of such things as waves and bamboo.
Here, Battilossi has used this pointalism method to depict a series of hexagons with floral and star shapes, and squares with simple flowers that all merges into a subtle overall contrast effect.
Hand-knotted in all wool, this piece has a medium to lower pile height and consistent feel texture with many subtle tonal variations as opposed to one flat color.
