Blue and Ivory 6x9 Shekarlou Gabbeh
Wonderful Prismatic Effect Gabbeh That Feels Like A Portal to Another World.
This Gabbeh has a strikingly modern feel to its design. Often the Shakarlou type Gabbeh rugs are attempting to capture a feeling or emotion versus the more literal Kashkuli types as they often depict scenes from the daily life of the weavers.
Shekarlou Rugs differ in one more respect as they are woven with a single weft running horizontally as opposed to the similar Kashkuli Gabbeh rugs that feature a double weft construction. The result of a single weft foundation is rug that more supple than the stiffer Kashkuli and Amaleh Gabbeh rugs. These rugs will feel slightly more fine under foot, and in hand, compared to its more rustic cousins. The blue dye used in this rug has been produced using the naturally growing indigo found in the valleys and meadows of the the Zagros Mountains where these herders and weavers live. Shekarlous typically will not feature defined borders or any of the more whimsically abstract subject matter seen in many other rugs in the Gabbeh family.
