Gabbeh rugs have their origins in the nomadic world of Persian herders. Made using hand-spun wool and dyes produced from natural plant and vegetable sources, our authentic Gabbeh rugs are among the most holistic choices for living spaces. These rugs have an almost quilt like appearance that has a sort of topographical storytelling quality to them. With a more abstract nod to garden design rugs, each plot of land often features symbolic representations of what one might find there. Whether it be animals like birds or deer, wavy lines for rivers or hills, and even symbols like small concentric squares which denotes watering wells.

The red dyes used in these rugs is made using the root of the madder plant. This plant must mature for at least five years prior to being harvested for dye making. The resulting red tones can range from intense and bright to more pastel coral tones depending on factors like dye concentration and whether the wool being dyed is of a lighter ivory tone or darker variety.
