8405 Khotan 8' x 10'4"
Khotan rugs originate in the eastern edges of the rug producing regions and their proximity to China has resulted in what we think of as the most “Silk Route” influenced rugs. What is most noticeable about them is the more Chinese influence on common rug elements. The traditionally lozenge shaped central medallions become circular and the corner spandrels of the central field become more literal and less interpretive. Border elements tend to be larger and more repetitive. Often more repetitive “Greek key” style lattice work is present, though this piece leans more towards the Persian floral motif. What makes these rugs fun is the mix of cultures and elements.
