7548 Kashkuli Gabbeh 5x7 Rug
Rich Red Toned Handmade Gabbeh Wool Rug
Materials: Hand-spun Wool and Naturally Sourced Dyes.
Hand-knotted in Southern Iran
Red is one of the more prevalent colors seen in Gabbeh Rugs due to the abundance of the madder plant in the Zagros Mountains. This plant must mature for 5 to 7 years before the roots can be harvested for use in dye production. The wool is hand trimmed from the sheep and spun by hand to produce the yarns used. The lack of mechanization in the collection of the wool results in a fiber that retains much of its natural lanolin. This has two benefits, it makes a stronger fiber that is resistant to staining and damage from sun exposure, and results in the wonderful variation of tones as each fiber takes the natural dyes slightly differently.
