Narrow Luri 2x5 Tribal Runner

Handmade Luri Tribal Wool Runner

Measures: 1'9"x4'9"

Materials: Hand-spun Wool and Naturally Sourced Dyes

Hand-knotted in Southern Iran

The Lurs are a cultural group in Western Iran that have had a major influence on the look and feel of what many people associate with the idea of the Persian carpet. This piece has a bit more of tribal guls often associated with Afghani or Turkmen produced textiles. The repetitive medallions are knotted with an eight-pointed star in the center, which some scholars attribute to be a symbol for happiness. These symbols also make up a majority of the main border detail. The fine detail in yellow is thought to represent a fence, or barrier against outside forces intruding upon that happiness. The wool used in this piece is same high altitude wool from sheep that have been bred and migrated among the Zagros Mountains for centuries and produce some of the finest wool for rug production known. The pile of this rug is dense and approximately one half of an inch thick.
