The Avita collection seeks to redefine what the concept of the flatweave carpet is capable of. Battilossi has experimented with complex Soumak weaving and embroidery techniques to create a line of rugs with an interesting and unique look. Made to complement modern interiors, the Avita collection was designed in Italy with the intention of being part of a symphony of other textures such as wood, marble, and leather. The Storm in Cactus is one of our favorites here at Christiane Millinger Handmade Rugs. It may have been designed in Italy, but we feel that this is the quintessential Pacific Northwest Coastal palette. The greens could be the churning surf off the coast, or the variegation of ferns in an old growth forest. The tan and beige tones may be from grasses on the dunes or from the high desert in Bend. You might have noticed that we are quite fond of this one. Even Battilossi recognized it when they told us we are the best sellers of the Storm in Cactus.
