7637 Red Turkish 10x13 Kilim Flatweave Rug
Large Handwoven Kilim in Vivid Red
Materials: Hand-spun Wool and Naturally Sourced Dyes
Hand-knotted in Southeastern Turkey
This bright and vivid Kilim has been made in the same traditional methods used by the semi-nomadic peoples that have been been producing these versatile textiles from Southern Turkey, through the Kurdish regions of Iraq, and into Northern Iran for centuries. Woven in long strips around 2 feet wide then joined to produce a textile to the desired width. This method allows these useful textiles to be produced on the move as the weavers migrate along with their herds. The bright red color is produced using a vegetable produced dye made from harvested madder root plants that take around 5 to 7 years to mature prior to harvest. The intentional variation in the textile is the result of the how the higher altitude wool takes the dye as varying intensities.
