Vintage Moroccan rugs are magical in the contemporary home. They were favorites of Ray and Charles Eames, Le Corbusier, and Frank Lloyd Wright, who admired their primitive and graphic abstract patterns. Unlike many fine wool rugs, Moroccans are quite lightweight, making them useful for wallhangings or for draping over beds and sofas, as well as on the floor. Their textures are as varied as Morocco’s terrain, ranging from the shaggy piles woven in snow-capped mountains, to the flatweaves made for Mediterranean or desert climates. Colorways vary from the popular Beni Ourains featuring natural wool colors (white, brown and black), to riotously bright patterns utilizing natural dyes. There is truly something wonderful here for every home.
